Six-year-old tests positive for COVID-19, youngest in Thane city

A six-year-old girl was tested COVID-19 positive on Thursday, the youngest to be infected from Thane city The girl who is a resident of  Kharegaon, Kalwa had got the infection from her cousin who had visited her home town, Kolhapur last month.

“The six-year-old’s cousin, a 15-year-old girl had visited Kolhapur for a relative’s last rites. It is learned that a relative there who was present during the last rites was tested positive a few weeks back. So the 15-year-old was checked for the infection after she returned on March 28 and stayed with her relatives in Kalwa, but she did not have the infection then. Later, when the six-year-old was tested as she was in contact with the cousin, her reports came positive, confirming she had contracted the infection from her cousin,” said Sandeep Malvi, deputy municipal commissioner, Thane. The girl was admitted to a private hospital on Thursday. Also, her high-risk contacts – four relatives were sent to the quarantine facility at Bhayander Pada.
