Upvan Lake

Environed by the majestic hills of Yeoor, the Eco-friendly Upvan lake is the largest of its kind in Thane of Maharashtra. Built and revamped by J. K. Singhania with the sole objective of supplying water to the Raymond factory, the lake became a primal water supplier to the entire city of Thane.

It is known for hosting the Sanskruti Arts Festival. Here one can also view thousands of Ganpati idols which are brought here for immersion on the final day of Ganeshotsav.

Built in the year 1880 by the Thane Municipal Corporation and it’s an artificial but eco-friendly lake situated in Thane, Maharashtra. The lake is located near Gawand Baug, Shivai Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Vasant Vihar, and Vartak Nagar.

This is one of the recreational areas for people who live in Thane. It is one of the biggest lakes in Thane, surrounded by Yeoor Hills, and lies in the Pokhran-II area. One of the eco-friendly lake of the city, Upvan Lake is regarded as Thane’s ‘lover’s paradise.

Upvan Lake today is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Thane. It makes for a perfect place to enjoy a picnic with family or take an evening walk to refresh your mind.

Besides the facilities mentioned above, you shall also find a big statue of Lord Shiva in the middle of the lake, a fountain, and a lake-side restaurant that is quite a hit among the locals.

Upvan lake forms a junction of the Pokhran I and Pokhran II roads. Once, the major source of water for the entire Thane city, Upvan lake is now used primarily for recreation. The official residence of the Mayor of Thane Municipal Corporation lies adjacent to the lake.

if you are visiting the lake in the evening, stay back till dusk because Upvan Lake is one of the best places in Thane to catch a mesmerizing view of the sunset.

How to Reach Upvan Lake:

Upvan Lake is about 5.4 km from Thane Railway Station. You can then take a cab or auto-rickshaw and bus from the station to reach the lake.
