Thane is known as the City of Lakes. It is also known as the Elder sister of Mumbai (Bombay) as Thane district was divided and part of Thane district that is from Mulund to Sion was given to Mumbai for its future development. Also, Mumbai is heavily dependent on Thane for water supply from Lakes. Thane for all practical purposes is a suburb of Mumbai that is past and has passed. Today Thane city area is 147 sq. km with more than 2.2 Million population.

Is Metro A Thane City?

The Thane Metro is a Mass Rapid Transit System for the city of Thane, Maharashtra, India. It will feature 22 stations along a 29 kilometers (18 mi) route (26 km elevated and 3 km underground) and will be connected to lines 4 and 5 of the Mumbai Metro. It’ll be also integrated and connected to the proposed New Thane Railway Station and existing Thane Railway Station. The project will be implemented by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro).

The Construction was expected to be completed in 4–5 years at a cost of. ₹13,095 crores. The proposed cost of the tickets will vary from ₹17 to ₹104. The roofs of the metro stations are planned to be fitted with solar panels, which will provide up to 65% of the electricity requirements for the system.

What is the difference between Thane city and Thane rural?

It is part of the Thane District. There is no such district called Thane rural and part of the earlier Thane district (largely rural) is now a separate district called Palghar which is spread Gujarat boundary. It starts from Vasai which is close to Bhayender. There is no such thing as Thane Rural/Thane City district.

What is the area of Thane District?

The district is situated between 18°42′ and 20°20′ north latitudes and 72°45′ and 73°48′ east longitudes. The revised area of the district is 4,214 km. The district is bounded by Nashik district to the northeast, Pune and Ahmednagar districts to the east, and Palghar district to the north. The Arabian Sea forms the western boundary, while it is bounded by the Mumbai Suburban district to the southwest and Raigad District to the south.
